Tommy Fleetwood looks like he will finally win the first PGA Tour event of his career at the Tour Championship.
Fleetwood narrowly missed out on victory for the umpteenth time at the St Jude Championship two weeks ago, when Justin Rose eventually beat J.J. Spaun in a playoff.
Following that disappointment, there were even more concerns about the Englishman’s winning mentality and whether he would ever get over the line.
Having played so well in the first three rounds at East Lake this week, Fleetwood had another excellent opportunity to break his duck.
With a handful of holes remaining, Rory McIlroy has commented on his Ryder Cup teammate’s pursuit of victory at the Tour Championship.

Rory McIlroy comments on Tommy Fleetwood’s attitude
It feels like everyone watching the Tour Championship wants Fleetwood to win, and McIlroy is certainly no different.
The Northern Irishman was really complimentary towards Fleetwood in his press conference after the tournament.
“I think it shows how great an attitude he has towards the game, how resilient he is,” McIlroy said. “Look, everyone knows it’s… if he gets it done today, that would be amazing. I think we’d all love him to.
“But if for some reason he doesn’t, I think we all know it’s only a matter of time. He’s playing so well. He’s been so consistent for so long. But look, I really hope he gets it done today.”
People can criticize Fleetwood’s inability to win in the United States, but he continues to show great strength by contending regularly.

Tommy Fleetwood’s best finishes on PGA Tour this season
Fleetwood had already finished in the top 10 at seven PGA Tour events this season before the Tour Championship.
While he was not in genuine contention at some of them, such as last week’s BMW Championship, he has had his fair share of opportunities.
| Tournament | Finish | To Par |
| Genesis Invitational | T5 | -8 |
| RBC Heritage | 7 | -13 |
| Truist Championship | T4 | -12 |
| Charles Schwab Challenge | T4 | -8 |
| Travelers Championship | T2 | -14 |
| St Jude Championship | T3 | -15 |
| BMW Championship | T4 | -10 |
Besides the St Jude, Fleetwood’s most troublesome defeat came to United States Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley at the Travelers Championship.
Seemingly, everyone in the golfing world is pulling for him in the final round at East Lake, so fingers crossed, he finishes in style.
