Rory McIlroy helped Shane Lowry get over the line at The Zurich Classic last night as the Ryder Cup duo won out in a playoff.
After Lowry had holed a clutch putt on 18 to take the match into a playoff back down the final hole, McIlroy and Lowry then held firm in the decided to take the win.
Both players will be hoping the win can kickstart their year on the PGA Tour which has, so far, been a bit poor, especially in McIlroy’s case.
However, the Northern Irishman was clearly enjoying his golf this weekend as he looked a more relaxed figure than we’ve seen in recent weeks.
And according to McIlroy himself, the New Orleans crowds played a big role as he admitted he still has to pinch himself a touch over the support he gets.

Rory McIlroy shares what the Zurich Classic crowd did that was so cool this weekend
Speaking to the PGA Tour’s official channels after the win, McIlroy paid tribute to the crowd and the response he’d got this weekend.
“It’s not lost on me how cool that is. Every time I get to play in front of thousands of people, the little boy in me just thinks it’s so cool and so exciting. The crowd really made the weekend,” McIlroy said.
McIlroy will be hoping that this weekend can give him a massive boost for the next major and events leading up to it.
After yet another disappointing Masters, McIlroy will simply have been happy to get out with a good friend and get over the line.
Golf fans in general are hoping McIlroy can find his best again.
With Scottie Scheffler being so dominant, McIlroy is one of the more realistic players on the tour who can make a serious challenge to him this year.
With a bit of luck, his win at The Zurich and that good feeling from the fans can kick him into gear.
