After his stunning win at The Masters, Rory McIlroy spent the night celebrating with his good friend Shane Lowry.

McIlroy achieved the career Grand Slam with his Masters victory, and Lowry was visibly delighted to see his good buddy make golfing history.

Lowry has admitted that he keeps reminding McIlroy to enjoy his fantastic achievement, rather than being obsessed with backing it up with more success.

That’s key for the five-time major champion. He needs to stay in the moment and appreciate what he has already achieved.

Lowry was absolutely buzzing to see his friend McIlroy win The Masters, and that’s great to see at this elite level of sport.

The two golfers have been incredibly close since they both started to achieve success on tour around 16 years ago.

That relationship was what made that night in Augusta one month ago extra special.

Rory McIlroy reveals what Shane Lowry bought him on the night he won The Masters

Winning The Masters and then celebrating with one of your best friends, who also played in the tournament, is the kind of stuff that dreams are made of.

McIlroy collapsed to his knees when he holed the winning putt on the 18th hole, during a play-off with Justin Rose.

And later that night he celebrated with a few glasses of wine in his rental home.

When speaking to Johnson Wagner on Live from The PGA Championship, McIlroy lifted the lid on what Lowry gifted him after he won The Masters last month.

He said, “So, funny story, when I won Shane Lowry went straight to the sommelier at Augusta National and he said I gotta get a couple of cases of wine off you, and they’re like Mr Lowry, we don’t allow people to take wine out of the club.

“And he goes, ‘no seriously, this is a one-off exception of whatever’.

“So they let him buy one case of 1990 Château Lafite Rothschild. So that’s what we had, that night to celebrate. So that was a very nice gift. He bought it, and he brought it over to my rental house that night, and we had a few glasses of that, which was very nice.”

McIlroy disagrees with what Xander Schauffele said about him

Xander Schauffele spoke to the media on Tuesday, and suggested that McIlroy will be a different animal now, and claimed that it is scary how good he could become.

However, McIlroy explained that he hasn’t changed one little bit since winning The Masters.

He said, Um. I’m just the same person. No, I look, I turn up and try to have the same attitude and the same approach to each and every tournament and try to get the best out of myself and some weeks that results in wins, and some weeks, it doesn’t.

And you know, as long as I approach every week that way, you’re all I can do is go out there and try to play the golf that I know that I’m capable of, and you know, as I said, some weeks, someone just plays better than you and on other weeks, you know, it’s your time.

So, you know, I’ve played over 400 events in my career. I’ve played a lot of major championships, and like, I know how these things go, and you just got to go out there and play.

There are two sides of the coin here. McIlroy could be freed up and go on a tear that sees him win numerous more majors during the next few years.

Or, he could lose motivation and not quite have that little bit extra that is needed to win a major championship.

All will be revealed in the future, but I think the former out of those two potential scenarios is the far more likely outcome.
