Rory McIlory is one of the stars of the show in the latest offering from Netflix’s Full Swing series.

The Northern Irishman was heavily featured in the second season and had plenty to say about a lot of the goings on in the 2023 season.

McIlroy was vocal about his performance at The Masters and revealed how he was glad to see rival Brooks Koepka not take home the green jacket. As we know, Jon Rahm took the win in the end.

Of course, one of the main major talking points over the course of 2023 was the whole situation with the PGA Tour and the LIV Tour. That has continued to rumble on into 2024, with more big players making the move to the PIF-backed tour.

Of course, at the PGA end, commissioner Jay Monahan has been central to everything. And while he is often portrayed as being a bit ‘marmite’ in the media, McIlroy has revealed that he is actually closer to Monahan than any player on the PGA Tour.

“I would say I’m probably closer with Jay [Monahan] than any of the other players on tour. That would be my relationship with Jay. It was Jay and myself that were doing a lot of the critiques of LIV,” McIlroy said for Full Swing.

Jay Monahan is lucky to have guys like Rory McIlroy

Depending on what you read and what stance you take, you can quite easily come to an opinion on Monahan and his management of the PGA.

However, with all that aside, in the current climate in golf, you have to say that Monahan is lucky to have someone like McIlroy in his corner really. Likewise, McIlroy is probably fortunate to have such a relationship with someone in Monahan’s position.

McIlroy’s future will always be a talking point now going forward. His initial stance over LIV seems to have softened and he very much seems to be concentrating on his golf.

Whether or not that’s enough to win The Masters finally, remains to be seen.
