Rory McIlroy is aiming to finish his 2024 PGA Tour season on a high as he enters the FedExCup Playoffs.

McIlroy could have an advantage at the St Jude Championship, which represents the first of three playoff events.

The Northern Irishman heads to Memphis after finishing T5 at the Olympics, with McIlroy enjoying his Olympic experience.

But all of his focus is now on the St Jude Championship, with the 26-time PGA Tour winner currently third in the FedExCup points list.

McIlroy is behind only Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, who will be hard to overtake given their form this year.

But like the American duo, McIlroy has also enjoyed a stellar year, with the 35-year-old boasting two wins.

Ahead of the St Jude Championship, he has now looked back on his 2024, saying in his press conference: “I think it was probably a slower start to the season than I would have liked.

“I really didn’t feel like I got going until April/May and then I have played pretty good golf since then. The couple of wins and a couple of other opportunities to win as well.

“Overall, reasonably happy with the way I have played this year and I have three tournaments coming up to try and turn a pretty good year into a very good year.”

How has Rory McIlroy done going into the FedExCup Playoffs?

McIlroy has made 15 of 16 cuts this season, with his only miss coming at The Open Championship at Royal Troon.

That will have been hard to take for the four-time major champion, particularly after his near miss at the US Open.

But he did taste success at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and Wells Fargo Championship, with six top-10 finishes going his way in 2024 so far.

Now his focus will firmly be on the FedExCup Playoffs, with McIlroy’s three FedExCup wins more than any other player.

Tiger Woods is the only other player to win the prestigious event multiple times with two, while Viktor Hovland is the defending champion.
