Rory McIlroy is very much a man playing well at Pebble Beach this week and he’s firmly in contention to win the AT&T.
McIlroy adapted to the weather around Pebble to card a fine round of seven under par and put himself on collision course with Sepp Straka and others to fight it out on Sunday.
For McIlroy, winning in his first PGA Tour event of the season would feel a massive bonus and set him up nicely as the golf calendar begins to hurtle towards Augusta.
As we all know, McIlroy has not won at Augusta and he’s struggled around Pebble at times as well.
However, while he’s not had success on the coast, it’s still not a course he dislikes.

Rory McIlroy says he hates playing one PGA Tour venue
Speaking to the press after his excellent round put him in contention to win at Pebble Beach, McIlroy was asked about if the course helps him at all.
And in answering the question, McIlroy revealed he very much enjoys Pebble Beach but named another course as one he just does not get along with.
“I think so. Yeah, I mean, you have a lot of good players up there. Yeah, it’s hard. You’re going to — the best players aren’t going to be on the top of the leaderboard every single week, or the most highly ranked players, but I think playing venues like this, it plays into some players’ hands maybe more than others and they can excel,” McIlroy said.
“Just sort of like a Hilton Head does for some people. I hate Hilton Head and I don’t like playing it but other people do. That’s the cool thing about going to different golf courses.”

What are Rory McIlroy’s favourite golf courses?
Being a proud Northern Irishman, McIlroy’s favourite places to play golf were always likely to be based over in Europe and closer to home.
Indeed, that is very much the case for McIlroy.
McIlroy is a big fan of St Andrews, admitting it quickly became his favourite golf course after playing it a few times.
“The more you play it, the more you learn about the course and its nuances, the more you learn to appreciate it. Now it’s my favourite golf course in the world,” McIlroy said previously.
McIlroy is also known to have a love affair with Royal County Down, while Royal Portrush – this year’s venue for The Open – is also high on his list.
