When you think about the best golf course in the world, the brain is naturally drawn to Augusta National because of the mystique of never being able to play but for Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka, there’s another course that tops the lot.
All three of McIlroy, Woods and Koepka have won at some of the best and toughest courses in the world.
Of course, Woods has five green jackets, meaning he’s more than capable of getting around the Augusta National track.
Koepka is the master of US Opens, while Rory McIlroy has won at Valhalla, Kiawah Island, Congressional, and Royal Liverpool.
However, when it comes to the best course in the world to play, all three are in agreement.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s choice of favourite golf course is clear
Looking back at some past comments on favourite courses is always interesting and it seems that the trio of Woods, McIlroy and Koepka are aligned in their views.
And their choice of best course in the world? Well, of course, it’s the legendary St Andrews Old Course.
“Playing at St Andrews is literally the best. It’s like going back in time. It’s one of the greatest walks coming up 18, to see the whole town there. Every great player that has ever played the game has played St Andrews. You can’t say that about any other golf course,” Woods said.
For McIlroy, who used to be in love with Royal County Down, St Andrews became his favourite after a number of visits.
“The more you play it, the more you learn about the course and its nuances, the more you learn to appreciate it. Now it’s my favourite golf course in the world,” he commented.
As for Brooks Koepka, one might think a long American course might suit his game. But for the five-time major winner, it’s all about St Andrews.
“St Andrews, my favourite golf course in the world. I can play that every day and not get tired of it, it’s my favourite place in the entire world. The town is just so much fun.”
Why is St Andrews so famous and popular with golfers?
Known simply as the Home of Golf, St Andrews is very much regarded as the best place to play golf in the world.
St Andrews has hosted golf for more than 600 years and in that time, anyone who’s anyone in the world of golf has played on the hallowed turf.
The Old Course is the one everyone talks about but St Andrews as a whole plays host to seven stunning courses, all with their own qualities and value for money for different levels of golfer.
St Andrews has played host to The Open 27 times, going back as far as 1873. In more recent decades, star names of the sport like Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, John Daly, Tiger Woods and Cam Smith have all won around there.
Interestingly, Nicklaus named Pebble Beach as the course he’d play his last ever round at but it goes without saying that St Andrews holds a special place in the heart for many.
