Rory McIlroy went into this week at the US Open with something not quite right about him and that has carried over into his game over two rounds to the point golf fans are once again hammering him.
McIlroy was actually off to a good start in round one but from the very first hole in round two, things went awry for The Masters winner.
Two double bogeys in quick succession pushed McIlroy down the field and he then battled all day long to try and make the cut.
- An angry club throw after an errant iron shot on the par five 12 started the meltdown, before things got even worse for him on 17.

McIlroy, after seeing his tee shot go not quite where he wanted, turned around and slammed his club head down directly onto the tee box markers. In doing so, McIlroy saw his club smash through the marker as frustrations clearly got the better of him.
And over on social media, golf fans are not happy with the Northern Irishman.

Rory McIlroy slammed by fans after latest US Open actions
Dear oh dear. What is going on with Rory McIlroy right now? The high of The Masters was meant to kick him on further but if anything, he’s regressed.
McIlroy has once again avoided the media, while Paul McGinley already expressed a worry over McIlroy’s attitude before a shot had even been hit.
Now, after such petulant behaviour on the 17th at Oakmont, fans are not letting McIlroy get off easily.
One fan labelled the 36-year-old as a ‘disgrace’ for his outburst, while another called out a distinct lack of respect, commenting ‘so disrespectful’.
Another fan carried on the discussion, suggesting the world number two take a break from the game.
“Disappointing. I think he needs a break. Hopefully he’ll make an apology and show some contrition.”
While another couple of fans picked on both McIlroy and his best pal, Shane Lowry.
“Rory and his buddy Lowry have looked like petulant children. Kind of a disgrace.”
“Becoming the biggest clown on tour, very quickly. Him and his pal Shane Lowry”
Finally, another called out his behaviour, referencing the club throw earlier as well.
“This is after he threw an iron down the fairway. And I’ve barely watched coverage today and saw those two. Not a great look for Rory.”
Rory McIlroy has to bounce back or risk more bad press
In the end, McIlroy battled like we know he can and made a birdie on 18 to make it into the weekend and ensure he is still at least around.
Remarkably, he’s only nine back off the lead and as we know in golf, one strong round can suddenly change the entire outlook of a tournament.
McIlroy has to start playing better but more importantly, he has to show some more patience and set a better example out there on the course.

We all know that golf can be frustrating. But he is one of the best in the world with the eyes of millions of kids on him. His couple of outbursts today were just not a good look and one he’ll surely reflect on.
Nevertheless, McIlroy is into the weekend and with weather set to affect play further, anything could happen.
