Despite Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau both playing five sessions at the 2025 Ryder Cup, the pair never actually squared off at Bethpage Black.
Heading into the Ryder Cup, there was so much excitement to see what contributions Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau would make to their respective teams in New York.
It appears that the pair do not like each other very much. McIlroy was criticised by fans for claiming that DeChambeau needs to talk about other players to receive attention after the LIV Golf star joked that he was going to be chirping in the Northern Irishman’s ear at the Ryder Cup.
Rory McIlroy cannot resist a jab at Bryson DeChambeau after Europe win the Ryder Cup
Of course, DeChambeau had previously been ridiculed for commenting on McIlroy not speaking to him during the final round of The Masters in April.
With that, many were dreaming of McIlroy facing off with DeChambeau on Sunday at the Ryder Cup.
Ultimately, Europe had the last laugh. McIlroy contributed 3.5 points throughout the week as Luke Donald‘s men, just about, won the Samuel Ryder trophy.

And it seems that the 36-year-old could not resist a jab at DeChambeau during the celebrations.
A video on social media shows McIlroy being encouraged by Matthew Fitzpatrick – the man who tied his match with DeChambeau having been 5 up at one stage – to cover the American’s name with the European flag on the bridge as they celebrated with the fans.
McIlroy did not hesitate to take up the opportunity.
Rory McIlroy’s antics at Bethpage divide opinion
McIlroy had to deal with all kinds of abuse from sections of the galleries throughout the week. So it is not entirely surprising that he got a little carried away.
One person in response described the action as ‘petty‘. Another said: ‘That is a really silly and unnecessary thing to do. It just invites bad feelings.’ Someone else posted: ‘Rent free in Rors’ head lmao‘.
However, others have applauded McIlroy, with one suggesting that it was ‘brilliant‘. Another clearly found the incident extremely amusing.
Obviously, neither player has always covered themselves in glory when it comes to the other. But golf is definitely better for having rivalries between the likes of McIlroy and DeChambeau.
