Robert MacIntyre posted a fine round of two-under-par 68 on day three of the BMW Championship at Caves Valley.

As a result of that impressive score, MacIntyre will take a four-shot lead into the final round of the BMW Championship, with world number one Scottie Scheffler his nearest challenger.

The Scot made a slow start to his round, but he finished with a flourish by holing a 41-foot putt on the final green for birdie.

His round certainly didn’t pass without incident though.

MacIntyre was heckled during round three of the BMW Championship, but that didn’t knock him off his stride.

In addition to that, MacIntyre and Scheffler were put on the clock at the BMW Championship on Saturday afternoon.

However, the 29-year-old from Scotland kept his head down and fought hard to eventually post 16-under-par after three rounds.

Robert MacIntyre says BMW Championship organizers made a ‘brutal’ decision

MacIntyre would have been delighted with his work on day three in Baltimore, especially the way that he finished his round off.

The two-time PGA Tour winner easily could have shot over par in his third round, but he leaned on all of his skills to ensure that he got in the clubhouse two-under-par for the day.

MacIntyre was asked to sum up his round at Caves Valley on Saturday.

He said: Yeah, the day was tough. As you would have seen, it wasn’t the plain sailing of the first two days, but yeah, I thought I managed it well. Missed it in the right spots. A couple of times I didn’t miss it in the right spots. But yeah, it was steady. Holed some nice par putts, missed a couple of chances that I felt I could have got.

But the pins were absolutely brutal. You want to be underneath the holes, and where they cut the pins today you just couldn’t get underneath them and you were standing there with 15 feet coming down a steep slope, a lot of the time a lot of break.

Even the first hole, put a bunker shot to 15 feet and you’re left with 4 on AimPoint, which from 15 feet you’re aiming a good three, three and a half feet outside the hole from 15 feet. So there was massive slope.

I thought I done a good job.

In fairness to MacIntyre, he always seems to thrive when playing in tough conditions. You need look no further than his performance at Oakmont in the US Open in June for evidence of that.

If the course at Caves Valley is set up equally as difficult on Sunday, he will undoubtedly relish the challenge rather than approach it with trepidation.

Robert MacIntyre’s stats from third round of the BMW Championship

The Scot’s form on Thursday and Friday was sublime.

However, he definitely fell off slightly on Saturday.

Here are his numbers from the third round of the BMW Championship:

Those numbers weren’t the best from MacIntyre on day three of the BMW Championship.

However, the one stat that matters the most is what score you sign for at the end of the round.

MacIntyre posted a 68 on what was a very challenging afternoon and for that, he should be very proud indeed.
