Rickie Fowler has revealed the piece of golfing equipment he’s been regularly experimenting with during the 2024 PGA Tour season.

The American is in Michigan this week as he looks to defend his Rocket Mortgage Classic title at Detroit Golf Club.

Fowler currently sits just outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup points standings and is in desperate need of a positive couple of weeks before the play-offs get underway at the St. Jude Championship.

2024 hasn’t been particularly kind to the American after he returned to the winners’ circle 12 months ago.

The six-time PGA Tour winner has struggled to find any consistent form and is in real danger of his season ending prematurely.

When asked about issues he’s had with ball-striking and overall consistency, the American revealed that he’s been testing different golf balls in order to find a solution.

“I’ve been working on a lot of the same things and basically still trying to do the same things to control the golf ball, hit it the right distance and hit it as close as possible,” he told the media during his press conference on Wednesday.

Fowler added: “Done some golf ball testing end of last year and into this year. I’m not saying that’s a part of it or anything. You’re seeing it throughout the bag where things haven’t been as good.”

Massive week for Rickie Fowler in Detroit

In a field that doesn’t include the world’s best players, there’s a genuine chance for Fowler to get his 2024 season back on track.

The likes of Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth are all taking a much-needed mid-season break ahead of a busy stretch of golf from the middle of July onwards.

With points now coming at a premium between now and the end of the season, Fowler will do his FedEx Cup chances absolute wonders with a top ten finish in Detroit.

Tom Kim and Min Woo Lee are the other notable names looking to stake a claim at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week.
