YouTube golf star Rick Shiels has suggested Scottie Scheffler needs to make a “huge” change with his caddie Ted Scott after the PGA Championship.

Scheffler finished T8 at the year’s second major after carding a final round 65 to end his tournament on a high.

For the 2024 Masters champion, the damage was done on Saturday after he carded a rare over-par round to play his way out of contention.

Interestingly, Scott wasn’t present on day three due to his daughter’s high school graduation. Scheffler’s good friend, Brad Payne, was the man to carry the 27-year-old’s clubs at Valhalla.

It may have just been coincidental, but Scheffler’s worst round came during Scott’s absence.

Shiels, however, believes the world number one is the player he is because of Scott’s presence, something he revealed on the Rick Shiels Golf Show.

“I’m not sure Scottie Scheffler would be Scottie Scheffler without Ted Scott,” he explained [Rick Shiels Golf Show].

The YouTube golf star went on to suggest Scott should receive a more significant percentage of Scheffler’s winnings.

He added: “I think Ted Scott deserves a huge increase in percentage cut he receives. That’s my take.”

A bold claim from Rick Shiels on Scottie Scheffler

It’s a pretty bold claim to suggest Scheffler’s success is mainly down to Scott. Of course, caddies play an essential part in any player’s form, but Shiels is basing this claim on one sub-par round at the PGA Championship.

Any player losing their caddie in the middle of a major championship is going to have an impact.

Payne was coming in from the cold and perhaps slightly unaware of the world’s number one yardages, something that would’ve been hard to deal with.

To suggest Scott deserves a pay rise due to one lousy round in unusual circumstances feels like an outlandish take from Shiels.
