Scottie Scheffler is now a four-time major winner after landing The Open this weekend and Rick Shiels has a theory on where his career may go next.

Scheffler dominated the field at Royal Portrush to win his second major of 2025 and move onto four for his career, just two behind Rory McIlroy.

The world number one was irresistible all weekend and won by four shots in the end. Indeed, it could have been even more.

Now, with the season finale in sight and the Ryder Cup to come, all eyes will be on if Scheffler can maintain the level he is showing.

And according to Rick Shiels, there are two distinct possibilities now for Scheffler.

Rick Shiels predicts what could happen to Scottie Scheffler when he wins the grand slam

Speaking on the latest episode of his Rick Shiels podcast, the popular YouTube star has become the latest to laud Scheffler.

Discussing his performance and touching on people calling it ‘boring’, Shiels actually suggested it was quite the opposite.

“I think on the topic of whether it was boring or not, for me it was not. I thought the final day, I wanted if anything, him to have an even bigger lead. I almost wanted him to overlap the chasing pack,” Shiels admitted.

“When you saw Tiger doing that many years ago it was like how much can he win by. Can he win by 10 or 12? It is unbelievable. It got close ish after he made that double bogey on eight, but he was so in control. I would literally have bet my life on the fact that he would have won that golf tournament yesterday yet I still watched every single shot because I thought it was fascinating.”

Going into more detail on what the future might hold for Scheffler, Shiels suggested his career could go in different directions of travel.

“I feel like it could really go two ways. In 20 years time we could be sat here on episode 2000 of the podcast saying that finally Scottie Scheffler has won 20 majors and become the most decorated major golfer ever. There is no question any more, it’s not Tiger or Jack, it’s Scottie Scheffler,” Shiels continued.

“Likewise, he could disappear. He might win the Grand Slam next year and go thanks everyone, that’s me, I’m retiring. I am packing up my clubs, I’ve got $100 million in the bank. He might just go I have done what I needed to do and I’m now going to pursue something else.”

Why Scottie Scheffler may well retire after he wins the grand slam

With Scheffler now just a US Open away from getting the coveted golf grand slam, Shiels believes that we might actually see the world number one walk away.

And while Tiger Woods simply cannot get enough of the game, Rick Shiels believes Scheffler might well be different.

“With Tiger that was never going to happen. Even now he is literally injured, he has been stitched together and filled with steel rods. He has done everything to make himself come back as a professional golfer. In his head he is not going to quit still until he gets to 18. As much as his body might not let him,” Shiels added.

“I think Scottie might go I’m done, I’m alright now. He said in the presser, if golf got in the way of his life with his wife or kids he would pack golf in. I really like him. I don’t know why, there is something about him this week I have kind of come away.

“Being a fan of Scottie Scheffler really respecting him and appreciating him to going, he’s different! This guy is different.”

We all saw in Scottie’s presser – as Shiels mentions – that golf isn’t his number one life goal. Likewise, he’d happily turn it in if it means being happy with his family.

His career is fascinating to watch really and hopefully, it continues to be a success for years to come.
