Rick Shiels has named the PGA Tour player he would love to see join LIV Golf over the winter having been impressed by what he has managed to achieve this season.

With LIV Golf finished for the year, there will be plenty of eyes on which players are linked with making the jump to the league ahead of the 2026 campaign. There is likely to be plenty of turnover in the coming months.

LIV have informed players that those in the relegation zone will lose their place unless they can earn it back through one of the various pathways.

But with the league struggling to compete with the PGA Tour when it comes to ratings, it is not going to be easy for LIV to convince any big names to join.

Those who may have been interested enough in joining LIV would have surely made the jump already. It is hard to imagine that LIV can still make the kind of offer that convinces anyone to change their mind.

But they have been encouraged to make a big play for one of the PGA Tour‘s star names.

Speaking on The Rick Shiels Golf Show, Rick Shiels commented on Tommy Fleetwood winning the Tour Championship and insisted that he would love to see him now make the move.

“I have not cried over a professional golf event for some time but I was a blubbering wreck when Tommy Fleetwood won the Tour Championship at East Lake, to take his first win on USA soil,” he said.

“After the journey he has been on this year it is mind blowing how he showed so much resilience and determination. It was unreal!

“All these post round interviews over the past few months, he could have shied away from the media. I don’t think anybody would have blamed him.

“When he lost to Keegan Bradley [at the Travelers Championship] that was brutal. If he didn’t want to do media I don’t think anyone in the world would have blamed him because that was a really tough one to swallow. But he didn’t. He came out and spoke to the media and it was very humbling and very real.

“I would love to see him on LIV! There is a spot on the Majesticks team, Tommy!”

Interestingly, Fleetwood has been linked with a move to LIV Golf on a couple of occasions. The Times reported that his manager denied reports in 2022 that he was about to join the league just as Henrik Stenson had agreed to sign.

And it seems that LIV tried their luck again a couple of years later. Once again, The Times claimed in early 2024 that Fleetwood had rejected an offer as the league then switched their attention to signing Tyrrell Hatton.

It does appear that a lot of LIV’s momentum has stalled despite signing Hatton and Jon Rahm. And it would be a real shock if Fleetwood followed finally winning on the PGA Tour by deciding that he wanted to move on.

Having said that, the last few years have shown that ruling anything out in this game can be incredibly naive.
