While Joaquín Niemann is on the verge of securing the individual title, there is potentially plenty to play for in the final three events of the LIV Golf season.

Like the PGA Tour, LIV Golf is gearing up for the crescendo of its year. As things stand, it looks highly likely that Joaquín Niemann will go one step further than last year when he lost out on the individual title to Jon Rahm.

Niemann has won five times already this year. And another impressive finish in Chicago should wrap things up for the Chilean.

With that, the big storyline in Indianapolis is likely to be which players will be relegated from the league.

LIV Golf issue players with warning about relegation this season

Ultimately, one of the big criticisms which LIV Golf simply cannot argue with is how poorly handled relegation has been over the first few years. The situation came to a head in 2024 with the farcical way Branden Grace managed to keep his place in the league.

Grace finished in the drop zone and did not earn his place back through the Promotions event. Nevertheless, Stinger kept him on their team for this season.

Meanwhile, Bubba Watson was also able to stay on as RangeGoats captain after making a business case to the league.

But it seems that LIV have taken on board the criticism. According to a report from The Telegraph, players have been warned that those who finish in the drop zone will indeed be relegated this year. The decision is likely to strengthen their case to receive world ranking points following their fresh application.

The players currently facing relegation from LIV Golf

Firstly, LIV Golf deserve a lot of credit for making this change. Ultimately, they have taken a lot of flak since starting up – for various reasons – so it would have been very easy to bury their heads in the sand and focus on keeping their players happy.

So it is definitely a step in the right direction.

It looks highly likely that the Majesticks are on course to lose at least one of their three captains this year. Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson are just above the drop zone. Meanwhile, Ian Poulter is 51st in the standings.

Elsewhere, Lee Chieh-Po, Yubin Jang, Mito Pereira, Anthony Kim and Frederik Kjettrup join Poulter in the drop zone despite playing in every single event this year.

It is certainly going to make the final weeks of the season a lot more exciting if relegation is much more decisive this year.

LIV definitely appear to have made a very smart call.
