The four major championships are all held in high regard, but the PGA Championship is considered the least reputable.
That is because the other three all have a clear identity, whereas the PGA Championship feels like a normal PGA Tour event.
Golf fans and pundits have recognized this issue, with some suggesting ideas for the PGA of America to consider.
YouTuber Rick Shiels has become the latest to call for a change to the PGA Championship to make it more exciting.

Rick Shiels wants the PGA Championship to go global
Rick Shiels has suggested that the PGA Championship’s identity should be that it is held all around the world.
In the existing major championship calendar, three of the four are always in the United States, and the other is in the United Kingdom.

“For me, the PGA Championship should be more of a global event, where it should be a major that travels around the world,” he argued on The Rick Shiels Golf Show.
“But I don’t think you are ever going to see a fifth major. That is going to skew all the major stats, and this idea of Jack winning 18, Tiger winning 15.
“If you had five majors to have a crack at, suddenly those numbers become insignificant.”
Shiels makes a good point that adding another major would give modern players an unfair advantage in the record books.
That is why the PGA Championship would need to be relocated outside of the USA and the UK for another country to experience a major championship.

Another popular course in that part of the world is Tara Iti. Situated on the coast of New Zealand, there may not be a more scenic venue in the world.
Finally, Real Club Valderrama in southern Spain is one of the most well-known European courses, hosting the Ryder Cup in 1997.
