The US Team continued their Presidents Cup dominance over the International Team with an 18.5-11.5 victory in Canada.

Rex Hoggard was impressed by Xander Schauffele at the Presidents Cup, with the world number two shining at Royal Montreal.

But as always, it was a team victory, with the US Team coming together brilliantly under captain Jim Furyk.

It looked for all the world that a huge win was on the cards for the visitors, after they took a 5-0 lead in the opening four-balls.

But a superb 5-5 comeback was secured by Mike Weir’s side, only for the US Team to regain their advantage heading into the final day singles.

Rich Beem wants Presidents Cup change after US Team win in Montreal

Wayne Riley wants men and women at the Presidents Cup, but Rich Beem is keen on a very different change.

Writing for Sky Sports, he noted: “I can promise you that the Internationals are tired of losing. Until the Internationals do get that next win, it’s going to be tougher and tougher for them to pull it off.

“The longer you go without winning, the harder it is to win. We’ve heard that in the individual game and something’s got to change here but, right now, nothing on the horizon suggests that it is.

“They’ve got to figure out whether it’s the venue, whether it’s the point system, or something else that’s got to change a little bit, because the Americans are just going to continue to churn out young, great players.

“Why not switch it back to three days, to mimic the Ryder Cup? That way, if you have guys that aren’t playing that great, you can hide them a little bit. You also then have one extra day of rest if those players want to play the week before, like Adam Scott, Byeong Hun An and Si Woo Kim did at the BMW PGA Championship.

“There’s lots of different ways of looking at it, but right now I think America are just really strong and they know that they’re that strong versus the Internationals. They’re not afraid of them, but we still have our fear of the Europeans.”

Will the Presidents Cup change for Medinah 2026?

A Presidents Cup change is seemingly needed given the competition’s history, with the US Team now clinching their 10th consecutive win.

Moreover, they now boast 15 wins and just one loss at the event, with the two sides sharing the trophy on one occasion.

The latest victory represents the second biggest margin of victory in the current format, with the seven-point gap bettered only by the eight-point gap in 2017.

The American players undoubtedly won’t be tired of winning, but perhaps a change is required sooner rather than later in order to end the current trend.

Whether the powers that be alter the format does, however, remain to be seen, with the US Team set to seek more success at Medinah in 2026.
