One of the biggest questions going into 2026 is how long Scottie Scheffler can continue this run of form.

Scottie Scheffler dominated 2025 in a way we haven’t seen since Tiger Woods, winning six events and two major championships. All of a sudden, he’s a US Open away from completing the career grand slam just a year after Rory McIlroy did at The Masters

Much to the frustration of Scheffler, he’s constantly compared to Woods, but those comparisons are only apt if he maintains his form as Woods did throughout the early 2000s. With another season like 2025, Scheffler can begin to knock on the door of golf’s Mount Rushmore.

Before Scheffler makes his 2026 debut on the PGA Tour at The American Express, an event that he’s never won, the Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard said how many times he expects the American to win this season.

How many wins Rex Hoggard thinks Scottie Scheffler will have in 2026

Scheffler currently has 19 wins on the PGA Tour, but Hoggard thinks that number will grow exponentially at the end of this calendar year.

Speaking on the Golf Channel podcast, he set the line at around six wins for the year. He said where he thinks the betting line should be:Five and a half somewhere around there. Maybe six and a half. I guess it depends on where the betting would come in.

“But I think it’s safe to say when you look at what he can possibly accomplish later this summer, certainly at the US Open with the Grand Slam on the line.

“And I’m just going to start with the American Express. I don’t know. I was a little surprised when I looked up his record that he’s played the American Express five times, and he’s never won it.

“And it’s just kind of getting to the point now where it is shocking when a player of that calibre has that many starts on that particular golf course, where you would think, yeah, it suits his skill set like everything he needs to do.

“Well, he doesn’t like making a bunch of birdies, and that’s kind of what the AMX is. It’s a bit of a birdie fest, and it always has been. So maybe that throws him off a little bit.

“It will be interesting to watch him starting the season this year because of what we came off of last year, because of the injury and everything that set him back last year, and how much time it took him to get back to full strength.

“I don’t think we’re going to see that. My guess is he spent this off-season two things: staying away from wine glasses and cutting pasta, making homemade pasta, and spending a lot of time on the range with Randy Smith working on his game.”

Scottie Scheffler’s American Express history

Scheffler didn’t play The American Express last season, but his history at the event before that isn’t cause for much confidence that he can take his first win of the year at PGA West.

His best result at the event came on his debut in 2020. He finished third at 23 under, but shot a final round 70 to bring him out of contention for the win.

The next year, he missed the cut with rounds of 70 and 71, leaving him three under for the tournament. That’s poor scoring on this birdie-fest of a golf course. And last time out, in 2024, Scheffler finished T17.

With this course playing easy for the players over the years, Scheffler’s talent advantage is somewhat nullified. But after an incredible 2025, you can never count him out of contention.

He was injured for the start of the 2025 season, so a win here would already put him ahead of schedule for bettering last year’s results.
