Phil Mickelson is never one to hold back on an opinion when it comes to golf and he’s once again been stirring the pot when it comes to LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.
Mickelson has done a wide-ranging interview this week with Joe Pompliano and in that interview, touched on a number of subjects around LIV and the PGA.
The six-time major winner went into great detail about his thoughts on LIV and what the bring to the table, while also taking time to have the odd pot-shot at the PGA Tour.
However, it was Mickelson’s comments on how LIV Golf will be successful that really caught the eye.

Why Phil Mickelson thinks LIV Golf will succeed
Speaking on the podcast with Pompliano, Mickelson was asked about why he feels LIV Golf will succeed and his answer was clear, in that he feels people enjoy playing on LIV compared to the PGA Tour.
“There is a lot of reasons why I think LIV is going to be successful but the number one reason would be something you wouldn’t think.
“That is this – it is how you feel. Where I am going with this, is that you can identify if something is right for you or not based on how you feel. Am I anxious? Am I dreading something coming up or am I looking forward to it and excited?,” Mickelson said.
But with such a bold take, golf fans have quickly caught on and it’s safe to say Mickelson has come under fire from some.

Golf fans brand Phil Mickelson ‘delusional’ after LIV Golf comments
With the golf world so split, there was always going to be comments both backing and going against Mickelson here.
However, there did seem to be a dominance in fans suggesting Mickelson was wide of the mark.
One fan called Mickelson ‘delusional’, adding:
“This is such a delusional take that you just have to tip your cap”
While another golf fan slammed both Mickelson and former LIV CEO, Greg Norman.
“WTF!! The desperation by PIF / LIV is sickening…. Phil and Norman have forever tarnished Golf by their vindictive actions toward the PGA and PGAT”
Another supporter of the game went even further, claiming Mickelson has become an embarrassment at times.
While another seemed to laugh off the suggestion of children being at the events as a key driver.
“Oh ok Phil. So LIV will be successful because little Johnny can scream his guts out but the players won’t mind because they can’t hear it over the dubstep blasting in the background and they all get a trophy check anyway. Exciting!”
Carrying on the criticism, one PGA Tour event attendee claimed Mickelson was simply naming all the things the PGA already do.
“I was at The Traveler’s last year. They already had everything he’s talking about. There was music everywhere, plenty of food for kids, they had a play area. The microphone has a LIV logo. This is all bs promotional stuff.”
And finally, while not exactly digging Mickelson out, one long-time golf watcher suggested there needs to be a touch more tradition in the modern product.
“I have to disagree with Phil. I grew up going to the Masters, The Atlanta Classic, and the Southern Open with my Dad. We learned how to be still and be quiet around the players while they were going through their shots. It was an awesome experience & some of my greatest memories.”
With Mickelson going into such detail in this interview, he has left himself wide open to this sort of comment and it looks like golf fans haven’t missed their opportunity.
