Phil Mickelson is among a group of LIV Golf stars who are very much hoping that they become the number one golf product in the world eventually.

Mickelson was one of the main players to make the shift over to LIV initially and he remains a key figure, both on and off the course, for the PIF-backed breakaway tour.

Of course, one of Mickelson’s key duties as a LIV player and pioneer is to build the tour and promote it the best he can.

Indeed, Mickelson has spoken this week of his prediction for LIV and the PGA in 10 years’ time and on that same podcast, the American also detailed why LIV will succeed.

Phil Mickelson says why LIV Golf will definitely be a success

Speaking on the Joe Pompliano podcast, Mickelson was very much banging the LIV drum and when asked about why he feels the tour will succeed, the six-time major winner offered up quite the explanation.

“There is a lot of reasons why I think LIV is going to be successful but the number one reason would be something you wouldn’t think. That is this – it is how you feel. Where I am going with this, is that you can identify if something is right for you or not based on how you feel. Am I anxious? Am I dreading something coming up or am I looking forward to it and excited?,” Mickelson started.

“When you go to a PGA Tour event, it is very uncomfortable for a parent to bring a child. ‘Don’t move – stop moving.’ ‘Come over here Son, let’s get a view’. Your kids are kind of tired, they are walking miles. The golf fan is the most loyal fan, paying for a ticket, walking miles and seeing a fraction of the action. It’s not like other sports where you buy a seat and see 100% of the action and don’t have to move. We have a very loyal fan base but when you are with the kids it is uncomfortable at a tour event, because if you have a six year old you are like don’t talk right now, come over here. They have walked and they are tired and they don’t have a place to go.”

Continuing on with his passionate rant about the benefits of a LIV event, Mickelson continued to big up how they embrace all fans.

“You go to a LIV event and you feel different. Here is why. You have music going so if you are out on the course, we don’t hear little people saying stuff. We don’t hear it. So you are not as anxious about having your kids be quiet. There is a fan zone on the course, where you can sit down and take a break, grab some drinks. You can take a nap, they have a kids zone by the club house, where you can take a nap or sit down and play putt, putt and play games with them or entertain them with a big screen so you can still see what is going on with the golf,” he continued.

“When you go there you feel calm and comfortable, like okay our kids had a great time, I was relaxed. I think that is the number one reason why LIV is going to be successful. Because when you go experience it you walk away feeling different, you walk away feeling like I really enjoyed that, let’s go back. And when you to a Tour event you are going to be like that was great, but you are tired, you are worn out. Not many people articulate it, but they will feel that.”

LIV Golf has to keep doing more

While there’s definitely a chance for LIV to overtake the PGA Tour at the moment as the PGA suffer with declining viewer numbers and the power struggles in golf in general, LIV still has a long way to go.

Sure, Mickelson’s points about the kids being involved and how it’s accommodating are fair game.

But you do get that at PGA and DP World events too, with many events in Europe very much getting the kids involved with workshops and clinics, often shown on TV.

Mickelson is clearly an advocate for LIV and that is fine and expected. However, to suggest it’s that much different to the other tours is a bit of a stretch.
