Just as we were all enjoying a nice weekend of Wells Fargo action and the return to form of Rory McIlroy, the arguments over LIV and the PGA have reared again.

The weekend has been predominantly dominated by matters on the course as both McIlroy and Xander Schauffele battle it out to be the winner at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Over at Quail Hollow, McIlroy is just a single shot behind Schauffele going into today’s final round.

However, off the course, the media has been dominated by an argument between LIV star Anthony Kim and golf journalist and broadcaster, Brandel Chamblee.

Chamblee and Kim have been embroiled in a war of words over LIV and from there, the reaction has spiralled on social media.

And in the end, one of the threads on the issue has found its way to a certain Phil Mickelson, who has once again had his say on proceedings.

Phil Mickelson takes aim at the PGA Tour as he defends LIV Golf’s impact again

Taking to X on social media to reply to a comment from Monday Q Info about golf being ‘broken’, Mickelson once again defended the impact LIV has had.

“Or , golf was broken and is in the process of being fixed. 1) average age of PGA tour viewer recently went from 60 to 65. 2)Totally U.S. centric and no plan to globalize opportunities. 3) Monopolistic control of media rights wouldn’t allow for players to use YouTube and other social platforms to promote the game to the next generation and working from within the Tour wasn’t an option, I.E. Bryson. What he’s doing now wasn’t allowed before LIV. Fixing the problem takes time but it’s better than waiting for it to collapse entirely,” Mickelson posted.

Division is no good for anyone in the game of golf

The initial tweet here about things becoming a touch tiresome when it comes to LIV and the PGA are bang on and it’s high time someone got on top of it all.

Over time, the interest in the game is just going to dwindle away if the two tours cannot come to proper agreements and work together for the greater good.

As Mickelson says here, LIV has probably done some good in disrupting things and bringing about a change in terms of the social media aspects of the game.

But those things need to be incorporated into everything in golf and that’s going to need some leeway from both the PGA and LIV.

Right now, we just seem further than ever from any sort of agreement and it’s becoming painful.
