There is a large question mark over what the future holds for Anthony Kim following his finish inside the drop zone on LIV Golf this season.
It seemed to be a real coup for LIV Golf when they managed to sign Anthony Kim in the early stages of the 2024 campaign. Kim had not played on the PGA Tour since 2012.
He became almost a legendary figure during his time away from the game. There were plenty of rumours surrounding what happened to Kim. So there was definitely a huge amount of intrigue when he signed with LIV as a wild card.
Unfortunately, Kim’s return, from a golfing perspective, has been something of an anticlimax. He failed to secure a point during his time on LIV Golf.
Phil Mickelson sends a message to Anthony Kim after his relegation from LIV Golf
LIV told players that those in the drop zone this year would indeed be relegated. It came after the league came in for real criticism for allowing the likes of Bubba Watson and Branden Grace to keep their places for this season.
But LIV are working to secure world ranking points. And with that, it seems that they will take a much firmer stance on relegation – with Kim one of the players who will pay the price.

Of those who played in every event, only Frederik Kjettrup finished below Kim in the standings. His best result of the year was tied for 25th in Dallas.
Nevertheless, Phil Mickelson responded to Kim’s social media post to praise the 40-year-old, who he partnered in both the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup.
What LIV Golf should do if Anthony Kim decides to call time on his playing career
Given everything Kim has been through, he really does deserve a lot of credit. By all accounts, he had absolutely no interest in the game during his time away from the spotlight – and did not even return with a set of clubs which had been fit specifically for him.
Kim has been honest about his struggles during his time away from the course. So there is no question that he will have inspired a lot of people with his comeback.
If this marks the end of Kim’s playing career, you would hope that LIV will make sure to offer him another role, perhaps as part of the broadcast team or in another position where he can have a positive impact.
Kim’s playing days look set to remain one of the biggest what ifs in the game’s recent history, with the world seemingly at his feet when he burst onto the scene nearly two decades ago.
It is a shame that there was no fairytale ending on the course. But given what Kim has been through, it is hard to imagine that he will have too many complaints about where he is right now.
