Phil Mickelson and Grant Horvat have played together several times before and now they will compete as a team in LIV Golf’s latest event.
Mickelson and Horvat might seem completely different – one is a 54-year-old, six-time major winner, and the other is a 26-year-old YouTube golfer – but they are good friends.
Mickelson entered Horvat’s world recently, filming several YouTube videos, and now the latter will return the favour.
The Duels, LIV Golf’s answer to the PGA Tour’s Creator Classic, takes place on Saturday night, and the pair have a good chance to win.

Phil Mickelson plays well with YouTube golf star Grant Horvat
Horvat is the biggest name in the YouTube golf scene, with over one million subscribers, and has filmed with Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau.
He’s also played with Mickelson, who he got on particularly well with, and the pair have since played against other duos like John Daly and his son.
So it makes sense that those two stuck together in The Duels, which will be available to watch on Horvat’s YouTube channel.
Mickelson was asked about his relationship with Horvat after the first round of LIV Golf Miami.
“Yeah, there’s a number of things, but we really play off each other well. Because he drives it so straight, it allows me to take some risks in our matches, which is really fun.
“He introduced me to the YouTube world, and it’s allowed me to do the things that I enjoy, so maybe I don’t have to corporate outings, but what I can do is the YouTube events because I really enjoy those.
“That’s brought a lot of fun to my life. I’ve really enjoyed that aspect of it. And the fact that we keep winning. (Laughter.)
“I’m appreciative of that. We complement each other well. He is the nicest guy. I tend to be a little spicier. So the sugar and spice… we tend to mix well.”

What are the teams for LIV Golf’s Duels event?
There are six teams in The Duels, including Mickelson and Horvat and Joaquin Niemann and English YouTuber Rick Shiels.
The Duels came about after the success of the PGA Tour’s Creator Classic, in which fellow YouTubers Paige Spiranac, Peter Finch, and Garrett Clark all took part.
The Duels teams
Sergio Garcia and George Bryan
Bubba Watson and Luke Kwon
Joaquin Niemann and Rick Shiels
Dustin Johnson and Wesley Bryan
Cameron Smith and Fat Perez
Phil Mickelson and Grant Horvat
Horvat also competed in the event at TPC Sawgrass before the Players Championship and won with a 15-foot birdie in a playoff hole.
LIV have clearly been inspired by the idea, and there’s a $250,000 prize pool up for grabs for The Duels.
