Phil Mickelson is very much a man finding his mojo in golf again and he’s once again in contention at the latest LIV Golf event over in Miami.

Mickelson carded a second round of one over par to sit at two under for the tournament and just three shy of Bryson DeChambeau at the summit.

For Mickelson, tuning his game up ahead of The Masters next week is crucial and it’s so far, so good.

Mickelson has admitted to adding a new club to his bag ahead of Augusta, while Mickelson also believes Rory McIlroy can beat the pressure to win out.

However, for the here and now, it’s all about trying to win in Miami and speaking after his second round, Mickelson passed comment on the ever-growing Miami crowds.

Phil Mickelson gives verdict on LIV Golf Miami crowds

One of the big sticks LIV has been beaten with by some in the media and golf fans in general has been their lack of crowds at certain events.

While LIV Adelaide has drawn huge numbers, events in places like Riyadh have not yielded the on-course crowds that they might crave.

However, there seems to be no such issue in Miami and asked about the crowds around the Blue Monster course, Phil Mickelson admitted it was great to see.

“Yeah, there was a huge crowd,” Mickelson said. “We look back and we’re looking at Bryson’s crowd, and that thing was massive coming up the 12th fairway, and it’s great to see the turnout here on the weekend in Miami for this LIV Golf event.

“It’s really been fun. You hear the concert going on, there’s a bunch of people out there still enjoying their day. It’s great.”

Phil Mickelson has already improved on his 2024 season

For a 54-year-old, Phil Mickelson is very much still active in the game of golf and while the LIV Golf schedule will suit him more, he’s actually playing his best golf for years.

This season, he’s already secured a top three finish in Hong Kong, while he’s also been inside the top 25 at both Adelaide and Singapore.

Contrast that to 2024, where Mickelson’s best all year was a T6 and he finished inside the top 25 just twice more, and it’s safe to say things are looking up for ‘Lefty’.

For a six-time major winner, pride is a huge thing in golf. And it seems for Mickelson, after such a disappointing 2024, that the time has come to fight back.
