For those who are not particularly interested in what goes on on LIV Golf, one of Phil Mickelson’s most notable contributions in 2025 came on social media when he made quite the prediction about Scottie Scheffler.

Phil Mickelson is certainly not afraid to stir the pot on social media. So it should not have come as a surprise when he decided to make a bizarre prediction concerning Scottie Scheffler‘s fortunes in 2025.

With the world number one making a sluggish start to the season – by his standards – Mickelson predicted that Scheffler would not win before the Ryder Cup.

Of course, that comment came back to haunt the 55-year-old. Scheffler won six times during the PGA Tour season, including at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.

Nevertheless, Mickelson has seemingly not learned his lesson.

Phil Mickelson’s Ryder Cup prediction comes back to haunt him

The 2025 Ryder Cup has been painful viewing for any American, with Keegan Bradley‘s men going into the fourth session five points behind the Europeans.

Scheffler had lost all three of his matches. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau had a mixed time, only winning his first point on Saturday morning.

However, Mickelson believed that the matches were just about to turn.

Unfortunately for the six-time major champion, the prediction proved to be another disappointing one. Despite threatening to spark a fightback on a couple of occasions, Team USA found themselves down in all four matches down the back nine.

The most damaging result involved Scheffler and DeChambeau as they were beaten by Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood.

Calls for Phil Mickelson to return to the Ryder Cup stage surely set to start as the Keegan Bradley experiment backfires

It means that Team USA will require a fightback bigger than Brookline or Medinah if they are going to regain the Ryder Cup on Sunday at Bethpage.

The Bradley captaincy experiment looks set to backfire.

It looks highly likely that many will be calling for either Tiger Woods or Mickelson himself to lead the side at Adare Manor in two years.
