The Ryder Cup will soon be upon us and while Luke Donald is likely to go with as close to the same 12 as in Rome, one PGA Tour winner has said he’s determined to make the team.
Team Europe dominated over at Marco Simone and going over to Bethpage Black in 2025, they will know full well that Team USA will want revenge.
As usual, the top players for Europe will be going, as the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg seem certainties to be selected.
Of course, captain Donald will have six picks again as he looks to fill out his squad, while the other six will earn automatic qualification through points gained.
And one of those players currently sitting in that top six, Matt Wallace, has outlined his determination to upset the apple cart and break into the team.

Matt Wallace says why he’s so determined to be on Team Europe at the 2025 Ryder Cup
Speaking on the Sky Sports golf podcast, Wallace got onto the subject of Ryder Cup selection.
And after being overlooked in 2018 and not picked in 2023 either, Wallace has said he is now determined to be part of the team.
“It would have been a bit of a risk for Thomas to throw me in, not saying I couldn’t have done it, but it would have been a bit of a risk so I understand. I missed the cut at the French Open that year. Those were the excuses why I didn’t make the Ryder Cup last time,” Wallace said.
“But now I came third at the PGA at Bethpage in 2019, I was behind Brooks and DJ. That’s not going to be an excuse this time. That can’t be.
“I will be a Ryder Cup rookie but I have played on the PGA Tour for five years now. I have beaten a lot of them. I am not scared. I am up for the fight and feel like I have the mentality to deal with anything over there. I just want to make the team.”
Wallace has real chance of making Team Europe
While the majority of Team Europe is settled, the ongoing issues around the LIV players means that there could be some doors open for newcomers as well.
In terms of players in form and pushing hard, Matt Wallace is right up there.
He’s only just won the European Masters in fine fashion and he picked up his first win on the PGA Tour back in 2023 when he won the Corales Puntacana Championship.

As Wallace says, he’s little reason to be scared of some of the big guns from Team USA and his obvious determination will make him a standout potential pick for Donald.
Indeed, Wallace could even have a good enough year to be an automatic pick anyway, such has been the improvement in his game.
