Steven Fisk won his first ever PGA Tour title at the Sanderson Farms Championship on Sunday.

Fisk finished off his final round at the PGA Tour‘s Sanderson Farms Championship in stunning fashion as he birdied his final two holes to beat Garrick Higgo by two strokes.

While it’s great to see the best players in the world like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy win golf tournaments regularly throughout the year, it’s incredibly satisfying to see first-time winners get over the line as well.

Fisk, 28, won his first PGA Tour title on Sunday in what was only his 24th start, and now he quite clearly has a very bright future lying in front of him.

He will have woken up on Monday morning a very happy man. Fisk earned a cool $1.08 million for winning the Sanderson Farms and now he will have one eye on what lies ahead.

However, the PGA Tour have actually been told they need to make a significant change after the 28-year-old’s triumph in Jackson, Mississippi.

PGA Tour urged to make rule change after Steven Fisk’s Sanderson Farms win

Fisk’s win has created somewhat of a debate within golfing circles.

Should he actually have received greater rewards aside from his actual paycheck for his win at the Sanderson Farms?

Gary Williams made a great point when speaking on the 5 Clubs Podcast about a rule change the PGA Tour need to make after Fisk’s memorable win at the Country Club of Jackson.

Williams said: Brian Rolapp used the term, he wants competitive parity. He thinks it’s very, very important.

I think the PGA Tour is a system that shows there is a lot of parity. It’s hard. Scottie Scheffler has done it and we applaud him for it, and we sit here and talk about him being a generational player because you don’t win seven and a gold medal and then back it up with six and live inside the top-10.

If they want competitive parity, they have already established a system of it. The notion that people who have brands on the PGA Tour are going to get relegated to the Korn Ferry Tour is highly unlikely because sponsorship drives the model.

What the PGA Tour has done, by creating a signature series, the balance of the PGA Tour is competitive parity and that is relegation.

If you’re outside that series and you can play your way into the vortex of that series, you’ve been elevated and if you’re not in that series, you’ve been relegated. So now the Korn Ferry Tour is the third rung, not the second rung, and I’m okay with that.

It leads me to my final point as it relates to elevation. Everybody talks about how elusive it is to win a PGA Tour event.

Here Steven Fisk is in Mississippi on Sunday hitting home-run shots and winning for the first time and he’s not in any Signature Events.

You cannot deprive somebody who wins on the PGA Tour. Anybody who wins on the PGA Tour should be green lit for two Signature Event spots.

Whether it’s the Sanderson Farms or the Farmers Insurance, whatever it is, winning should get you the greatest rewards. You’ve got to give these guys an opportunity to truly get elevated. Talent cannot be hidden forever, talent needs to be rewarded.

It’s a great point by Williams, but it’s also worth remembering that Fisk has indeed been rewarded for his win at the Sanderson Farms Championship with entry into two huge events in 2026 – The Players Championship and The PGA Championship.

What the PGA Tour’s 2026 Signature Event schedule looks like

A new Signature Event has been added to the calendar for 2026.

The Miami Championship was recently named as the ninth Signature Event on the PGA Tour and it will take place at the iconic Trump National Doral in late April.

Here’s what the 2026 Signature Event schedule looks like:

TournamentDate
The SentryJanuary 5-11
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro AmFebruary 9-15
The Genesis InvitationalFebruary 16-22
Arnold Palmer InvitationalMarch 2-8
RBC HeritageApril 13-19
Miami ChampionshipApril 27-May 3
Truist ChampionshipMay 4-10
The Memorial TournamentJune 1-7
Travelers ChampionshipJune 22-28

Hopefully the PGA Tour will listen to Williams’ suggestion after Fisk’s win at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

The 28-year-old is certainly deserving of a place in one or two of the top-tier events on the PGA Tour.

Now it’s time for Brian Rolapp to prove that he does, in fact, want competitive parity.
