Ludvig Aberg is one of the very best young players in the world and appears destined to win more than one major in his career.

Aberg has already finished second in his first Masters and he also finished in a tie for 12th in his first US Open last year.

Aberg was injured a few months ago but is now back playing on the PGA Tour and is very much looking to get this first win of the season as quickly as possible.

However, the big story behind Aberg is how he came from nowhere to be included in Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup squad for the 2023 winning effort in Rome.

Indeed, Aberg is so impressive and according to Matt Fitzpatrick’s caddy Billy Foster, Aberg was that good that it made him immediately message Luke Donald.

Billy Foster shares what he told Luke Donald the first time he saw Ludvig Aberg

Speaking on the latest episode of the 19th Uncut podcast, Foster told the story of how he’d first come across Swedish star Aberg.

And according to Foster, it was immediately apparent that Aberg was going to be a star.

“We played with Ludvig Aberg when he made his debut in Canada, June the ninth, 2023, I’ll never forget it,” Foster said.

“We played with him the first two rounds, never seen him hit a ball before. Thursday/Friday, Friday night I sent a text message to Luke Donald. ‘Luke we’ve just played with this kid Aberg’. My exact words were ‘He’s Henrik Stenson’s lovechild, if you’re good enough you’re old, keep tabs on this guy because this guy’s a stud’. That’s the exact words I sent to him. “

How Ludvig Aberg performed in the 2023 Ryder Cup

When you look at a new player in the Ryder Cup making an impression, then Ludvig Aberg gave one of the best debut displays Europe has ever seen.

Aberg went out with Viktor Hovland in the opening session to obliterate Max Homa and Brian Harman, before he went one better with Hovland to hammer Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka 9&7 in the second day foursomes.

Aberg’s winning run did end as he lost alongside Hovland to Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns, before Brooks Koepka had too much for him in the Sunday singles.

However, Aberg has made his mark and in future Ryder Cups, one would imagine the Swede will secure a place in the squad for years to come.
