The PGA Tour have grand plans to break new ground in 2025, and that includes the hiring of a new CEO.
LIV Golf is looking for a new CEO, with current incumbent Greg Norman set to remain with the PIF-funded tour.
But the PGA Tour is now joining its rival in that area, in what is a new position for the traditional tour, with Jay Monahan to remain as commissioner.
LIV Golf and the PGA Tour are yet to reach an agreement on a merger, despite a framework agreement being signed in June 2023.
The rival parties have continued to go their separate ways on the course, but talks have been ongoing behind the scenes.

PGA Tour chief Andy Weitz hints PIF agreement news
The PIF are close to acquiring 6% of the PGA Tour’s commercial arm, with that breakthrough coming after reports of a $1billion deal last month.
Andy Weitz, the PGA Tour’s chief marketing and communications officer, has now provided an update, having been asked on Golf Channel what extent their search for a CEO brings about an agreement.

“I think it’s a signal that we are on the right track,” said Weitz. “This is another example of making sure we have the right people in the right roles to come together and create some exciting experiences for fans in 2025 and beyond.
“There has been some public reporting on where we stand in that deal and I think it speaks for itself. Like any complex deal of this size it is going to take time to get it just right and it’s been reported this is likely an investment and is at a point in the process where it’s likely going through regulatory review.
“That’s totally natural for a deal on this timeframe. We look forward to sharing more on the front, hopefully in the new year.”
PGA Tour vs LIV Golf clash takes place at The Showdown
Many golf fans will now be awaiting the new year impatiently, having already been forced to wait far too long for any merger.
It is, however, very likely to be complex as Weitz mentioned, with plenty of important factors needing to be considered.

As always, the fans need to be at the centre of the conversation, with the PGA Tour only going to grow if supporters are treated with respect and clarity.
There was, of course, an intriguing twist in the tale with The Showdown, where PGA Tour duo Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler overcame LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
But that exhibition clash was unaffiliated with the two tours, so it remains to be seen how much of a role that has played in any discussions regarding a merger.
