The build-up to the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black may have been greater than any event in golf history.

The Ryder Cup has long been the pinnacle of professional golf, but this year feels different for several reasons.

There was some animosity between the two teams two years ago in Rome, which has only added more emotion to the competition.

Meanwhile, the biggest talking point before the teams were announced was whether Keegan Bradley would play for the United States.

Well-known YouTube golfer Peter Finch has now criticised the PGA of America for making a strange decision before the Ryder Cup.

Peter Finch cannot believe Keegan Bradley is the USA Ryder Cup captain

Days after Keegan Bradley announced his 12-man team for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, Peter Finch still cannot get his head around the situation.

He thinks the PGA of America made a terrible mistake by naming Bradley the USA captain when he had a genuine chance to play.

“The decision to make Keegan Bradley captain is still absolutely baffling to me, Finch said on The Rough Cut Golf Podcast.

“I cannot understand why you would take a current player who wants to play, who should have played last time, entering a period in his life where his form should be the best of his life, and make him captain out of sympathy because of a Netflix documentary that shows how much he wanted to play in Rome and that he should have gone.

“Did you make him captain because you think he’s not going to try to make the team? It puts him in a position where he’s one of the best US players; he doesn’t want to pick himself because being a captain of a Ryder Cup team takes a certain amount of effort, which means you just can’t split your responsibilities.

“It seems such a stupid move. I don’t know if it’s going to bite them in the a—. Keegan Bradley might not have scored any points, and he might be one of the best Ryder Cup captains in history.

“Only time will tell, but it seems such a redundant, stupid thing to do. I just don’t understand it. That’s my little rant over.”

Peter Finch thinks Maverick McNealy should be on the USA Ryder Cup team

Finch is convinced that Bradley is playing well enough to contribute to the United States team in New York.

He also feels the same way about Maverick McNealy, who narrowly missed out on a captain’s pick last week.

“Now we were saying, actually, the number of US players who could have come in is only two,” Finch added. “I think there are only two who make sense.

“I think it’s Keegan Bradley and it’s Maverick McNealy. Those are the two. I’ve got to be honest, I think adding those two to the team makes it stronger.

“Yes, [Bradley] wants and loves the Ryder Cup so much, but he’s literally playing better golf than a lot of these players.”
