The PGA of America have confirmed that their players will be paid for the Ryder Cup in 2025 and the news has once again triggered a wave of reaction.

Confirmation that Team USA will be paid $500,000 each – with only $300,000 guaranteed to charity – has finally put the seal on rumours doing the rounds for months.

The other $200,000 will be paid as a ‘stipend’ but there is no official explanation of what that means or how players will allocate that money.

On the surface, then, it feels very much like the players are indeed being paid into their own pockets.

And reacting to the news, YouTube star Peter Finch has suggested that the doors may have been opened to potentially ruin the tournament.

Peter Finch voices Ryder Cup concerns after Team USA payments confirmed

Taking to X to offer up his reaction to the news, the popular British YouTuber Finch reeled off a range of feelings he had about the announcement.

And for Finch, the thought of money being involved for the players just does not sit right, albeit he does back the charity element.

What else has been said about Ryder Cup payments?

There’s been a firm line in the sand drawn when it comes to being paid to play in the Ryder Cup.

The likes of Shane Lowry on the European side have said they don’t want money, while Rory McIlroy also backed that same stance, even saying he’d pay to play.

On the American side, though, it seems to be viewed in a different way.

Tiger Woods has said players should get even more but to be fair, he did say the money should all be going to charities. Indeed, Woods was part of a near boycott of the Ryder Cup back in the 90s due to arguments over money.

It seems, then, that the issues for the Americans is the amount of money they generate for the PGA of America and it not being filtered down properly.

However, all they’ve done here is open a can of worms and as Finch says, it’s just added fuel for a European team already desperate to win.
