While the clamour over LIV Golf and the PGA Tour’s future continues to rumble on, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s big TGL venture is slipping under the radar somewhat.
TGL will launch properly in January as the likes of McIlroy, Woods and Xander Schauffele – among others – look to redefine the game again.
The format of the game is a mix of virtual golf and real putting and short-game shots, with some of the biggest names in the world signed up to compete among the six teams.
As we know, Tiger Woods won’t actually make his debut in the tournament until week two, while Rory McIlroy will not feature until week four.
Whether or not the actual league will be a success, is another matter. And that’s the question that former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has tried to answer.

Paul McGinley makes prediction involving ‘phenomenal’ TGL
Speaking on a podcast interview with the Irish Independent, McGinley got onto the subject of the TGL and if it will indeed prove successful.
And for McGinley, it’s very much a case of wait and see.
“I don’t know if it’s going to be successful, if I’m honest. I have seen the computer generated images and it looks phenomenal,” McGinley said.
“There is some serious people involved in this and they are not throwing money at this for the sake of losing it. I am as intrigued as you over how they are going to take this and make it the success that they think it going to be.”
Is there room in golf for TGL?
While there’s been claims that TGL will attract viewers due to the star power involved, there remains plenty of ifs, buts and maybes when it comes to the TGL being a success.
At the moment, golf fans in general have had enough of the constant talk of money surrounding LIV and PGA, while the DP World Tour has even been tipped to not exist in the next decade.
Quite whether golf has the room for TLG, and if fans have the capacity to absorb yet more golf content, is the big question plenty are asking.
Right now, the opening few weeks will no doubt get plenty of eyes. The trick will be to keep the interest up and ensure it develops as a product.
