While the Presidents Cup is going on over in Montreal, we’ve the small matter of the Spanish Open on the DP World Tour and Patrick Reed is among the big names in contention.
Reed has made the trip to Madrid to compete alongside the likes of Jon Rahm as he looks to get some world-ranking points ahead of Ryder Cup year in 2025.
Of course, Reed is a huge outsider to be in contention for Team USA but on the basis of his form in Spain so far, he’s producing some quality golf.

Reed carded an excellent round of five-under in his second round to propel himself into contention and going into the weekend, he’s well in the mix.
The American has, surprisingly, never played in Madrid before.
But discussing the Spanish capital and the tournament in general, Reed has lauded the surroundings.

Speaking to the media after his second round in Madrid, Reed was asked what he thought of being in the city and the golf in general.
And complimenting the locals, Reed admitted to being super-impressed by everyone and the course.
“It’s always fun coming here. First time in Madrid. Been in Valderrama for the past two years which has been outstanding. So when I was coming here, I had big hopes and hoping that it was doing to be kind of the same and with just the people and the area,” Reed said.
“It exceeded my expectations by far. The people have been absolutely outstanding and very supportive, and the town, being down there in Madrid, it’s been a lot of fun.
“I hope to soak it up the next two days, and hopefully continue some good golf and hopefully have a chance to win the golf tournament.”

Reed has been one of the big names from the LIV Tour to make the trip to Madrid and he’s five back of the lead going into Saturday.
With a big third round, Reed’s presence could well end up being felt and it will be no surprise to see him in the mix come Sunday afternoon.
