Patrick Reed has never been far from the odd bit of controversy in his career and he’s also never been afraid to speak his mind either.

Reed is currently over on the LIV Golf scene but remains someone who likes to play the DP World Tour when he can, while he sealed his yearly appearance at The Masters by winning in 2018.

With Augusta National just a week away now, all the talk in golf should be focussed on the event.

However, as has been commonplace in the last few years, talk of LIV Golf, the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour’s future continues to be a discussion point.

Reed, of course, has flown the flag for all three in his career so far but when it comes to the DP World Tour, he admits that certain PGA Tour players really annoy him with their lack of support.

Patrick Reed says why he gets annoyed at some PGA Tour players

Speaking in an interview for The Mirror, Patrick Reed was discussing the future of golf in general and then got onto his love for the DP World Tour.

The flagship event on that tour is the BMW PGA at Wentworth.

However, it is that event that causes Reed plenty of annoyance, with the American suggesting players need to do more than just show up at Wentworth to claim some ranking points.

“It never sat well with me and other guys that guys would just come over and play Wentworth,” Reed commented.

“That would be the only event they are going to play because of world ranking. If you aren’t going to support that tour, then why would you go and take a spot from a guy that has supported the tour all year to get to that event?

“For me, that didn’t sit well. If you want to play the big events, then support the tour.”

How PGA Tour players have done in the BMW PGA Championship

To be fair to the players that come from America to play, the likes of Billy Horschel, Patrick Reed and some others do try and take in more than the one big DP World Tour event.

Furthermore, despite being so good, a lot of the time, the winner at Wentworth is a lesser known name.

Sure, big names like Horschel, Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton and Shane Lowry have won it in recent years but all those four guys represent both their own tour and the DP World Tour very well through the year.

Beyond that, we see lesser known names in America like Alex Noren, Ryan Fox, Chris Wood and An Byeong-hun all winning in the last decade or so.

So, while Reed’s point stands about the PGA players making more of a stand to support the DP World Tour, when it comes down to it, it’s generally the DP stars who take the glory at Wentworth.
