It was an American clean sweep in the major championships after Xander Schauffele landed The Open Championship at Royal Troon on Sunday afternoon.

The 30-year-old produced a scintillating final-round 65 to hold off Justin Rose and Billy Horschel, both of whom impressed during the last 18.

Unsurprisingly, Schauffele has once again become the talk of the golfing world, and fans have decided whether the two-time major winner has had a better season than Scottie Scheffler.

Elsewhere, compatriot Justin Thomas sent Schauffele a heartfelt message after his emotional win at Royal Troon.

Patrick Cantlay, who played the first three rounds with Schauffele, is the latest player to send his close friend a message after his second major championship victory.

“Another @TheOpen in the books,” Cantlay wrote on X.

“Congrats, @XSchauffele, on your second major. Great run.”

Xander Schauffele times Open Championship run perfectly

Schauffele performance on Scotland’s west coast will go down as one of the all-time Open Championship displays.

After weathering the conditions over the first two days, the 30-year-old ensured he remained in contention whilst several high-profile names failed to keep pace.

And, when the time was right on Sunday, Schauffele stepped up his level.

His putting, in particular, was simply magnificent and must have been demoralising to those trying to chase down the lead. Anytime Schauffele gave himself a look within 15 feet, there was a feeling it was going to drop.

Now, with his second major in the bag and the pressure well and truly off, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see the American contend at The Masters when the 2025 major season kicks off in eight months.
