Patrick Cantlay’s superb PGA Tour career has taken him all around the world, with the American boasting eight wins.

Cantlay has impressed in 2024 so far, with the St Jude Championship at the FedExCup Playoffs his next PGA Tour event.

The importance of the St Jude Championship cannot be overstated, with Cantlay among the 70 players in Memphis for the event.

He occupies 11th spot in the FedExCup Playoffs points list, with the top 50 then going on to play the BMW Championship.

Colorado’s Castle Pines Golf Club will host that event, with the finale taking place at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Up first, however, is the St Jude at TPC Southwind, where Cantlay lost in a playoff to Lucas Glover last time out.

The former has now shared his thoughts on the course, as well as naming his favourite place to play on the PGA Tour.

“I think you have to address it differently,” Cantlay said of TPC Southwind in his pre-tournament press conference. “There are certain shots where unless the situation really requires it, you don’t take the shot on and making par and going to the next hole is a good score. Not every week is like that.

“My favourite golf course on tour is quite the opposite. Riviera is my favourite golf course of the year. There’s no hazards and it’s all about leaving the golf ball in the correct spots and playing the correct shapes into certain hole locations.

“This week is more target golf but that’s what makes it interesting out here. We play all different types of grasses and weathers and conditions, so it’s about getting your mindset in the right spot to adapt for that week.”

What events have been played at The Riviera Country Club?

The Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, California is, of course, an iconic venue, and undoubtedly one of the most glamorous on tour.

It is home to The Genesis Invitational, where Cantlay holed a 50-foot birdie on his way to a T4 finish earlier this year.

The course in California’s Pacific Palisades has previously hosted the PGA Championship on two occasions, along with the US Open, while it will host the major again in 2031.

And it is certainly heading for an exciting near future, with Riviera playing host to the 2026 US Women’s Open, and the men’s and women’s 2028 Olympic golf.

Cantlay will be eager to play a part in some of those future events, but first he must guide himself through the FedExCup Playoffs.
