The PGA Tour has proposed a raft of changes for 2026 and those changes have caused plenty of discussion, with Padraig Harrington now giving his thoughts on the matter.

The PGA are looking to try and combat a number of complaints in golf by making some drastic changes to the field sizes and those who have cards to play on the TOUR.

The fields will be reduced from 156 to 144 for a start, while the players who are guaranteed their card from the FedEx standings will drop from the top 125 to the top 100.

Furthermore, opportunities are going to be harder to come by for those on the Korn Ferry Tour, with the number of cards awarded shifting from 30 to just 20.

While the changes have caused plenty of discussion, it’s believed PGA players are onboard with the changes in the main.

However, never one to shy away from an opinion, Padraig Harrington has now had his say on the changes.

Padraig Harrington gives his honest opinion on PGA Tour changes for 2026

Taking to X to address the issue at large and especially those who feel slow play will be helped, Harrington expressed his concern for the players trying to make their way in the game.

Taking time out to reply to the tweet from Irish on Tour under his initial statement, Harrington then suggested that the players who have been complaining about issues – such as playing in the dark – will be the ones who end up suffering anyway.

Time will tell on 2026 changes for the PGA Tour

Padraig Harrington is certainly as well placed as anyone to make comment on these changes and his opinion here is more than valid.

However, none of us really know how this will impact the game in two years’ time.

The PGA have to make big decisions and ultimately, there seems to have been some pressure from the outside and inside with the players to make a change.

Come 2026, we will be able to fully tell if Harrington’s prediction is correct or not.
