Rory McIlroy is your 2025 Masters champion as he finally completed the career grand slam by beating Justin Rose in a playoff.
McIlory put everyone through the ringer by throwing away a four shot lead when it looked like he’d seen off Bryson DeChambeau and could cruise to the win.
However, a number of big errors including a horrendous double bogey on 13 allowed Justin Rose in and it went to a playoff.
Rose himself had made 10 birdies in a stunning final round but couldn’t see McIlroy off when it matters.
And now, two of McIlroy’s biggest advocates, Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald, have reacted.

Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington react as Rory McIlroy wins The Masters
With McIlroy getting the win, a number of big names were out in force to congratulate him.
Phil Mickelson was one of the first to congratulate McIlory, but over on European shores, his Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald and former Ryder Cup vice captain Padraig Harrington were also quick to praise McIlory.
There’ll be plenty more reaction to McIlroy’s win as well, and given the achievement and circumstances, it seems like the whole week could be dominated by the story.
Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose prove they’re ready to play for Luke Donald at the Ryder Cup
It feels like it’s a long way away, the Ryder Cup, but before we know it it will be here and by winning The Players and The Masters, Rory McIlroy has proven he’s Europe’s man man.
The way he won was dramatic but aside from that, some of the iron shots he played when under pressure were quite remarkable.
In terms of match-play, those shots go a long way to a team being successful and the grit and determination showed by McIlroy – as well as Rose – was obvious and impressive.
Going into Bethpage Black in September, both McIlroy and you’d imagine, Rose, will be key for Luke Donald and he’ll be delighted with what he’s seen here.
