Jon Rahm continues to be a thorn in the side of the DP World Tour as the Spaniard refuses to pay his outstanding fines.

Rahm has no intention of paying his fines picked up from playing in Saudi-funded LIV Golf tournaments without requesting permission from the DP World Tour.

The standoff has thrown the Spaniard’s Ryder Cup participation into doubt, with Rahm unable to play on the DP World Tour until his fines are resolved, but his appeal against the fines means he can take part in the events.

He needs to play in three more tournaments on the European-based tour before the season ends in order to gain eligibility for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Rahm was a central figure as Luke Donald’s Team Europe overcame Team USA at last year’s competition in Rome.

He plans to play at the Spanish Open, Dunhill Links Championship and Andalucia Masters before the end of 2024.

Rahm’s compatriot Pablo Larrazabal has now weighed in on the debate on X, with his quotes translated from Spanish to English: “For the sake of the two tournaments we have in Spain, I hope it gets resolved and we can compete against Jon…

“If not, the prizes will go down, not as many people will come and with the possibility that we will lose one of the two soon… a shame. I, always team Jon…”

Will the DP World Tour reach an agreement with Jon Rahm?

Rahm certainly isn’t the only potential Team Europe player to have witnessed his world ranking place drop due to LIV Golf.

With LIV events not recognised by the OWGR, the likes of Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Sergio Garcia have all slipped down the standings.

Rahm is, however, the one player of the lot that Donald would really like to be able to rely on at Bethpage Black next year.

Justin Rose wants Rahm at the Ryder Cup, but whether or not he can come to an agreement with the DP World Tour remains to be seen.

Rahm is 14th in the world rankings, with the two-time major champion desperate to be in Madrid for the Spanish Open, St Andrews for the Alfred Dunhill, and Sotogrande for the Andalucia Masters.
