Golf has plenty of problems right now across the whole sport but there is no question whatsoever that the issue of slow play is bigger than ever.

The Farmers Insurance Open this weekend has once again brought the issue to light, with the leading group in the final round taking five and a half hours to complete their round.

The PGA Tour have an issue on their hands and golf coach Lou Stagner has called for penalties to be imposed in order to get players speeding up.

Indeed, Stagner’s stance goes along with others, with Charley Hull calling for ruthless punishments including removal of tour cards.

However, while everyone is calling for a solution, DP World Tour star Pablo Larrazabal has pointed the finger elsewhere.

Pablo Larrazabal blames golf coaches for slow play issues

Spanish star Larrazabal is never one to hold back on his opinion and he’s now chipped in on the issues of slow player.

Responding to the post on X which highlighted the pace of play at the Farmers, Larrazabal replied and pointed the finger at University golf coaches for teaching players to effectively take their time.

With TV ratings on the decline and the likes of TGL and LIV Golf pushing boundaries in other ways, it will be interesting to see if the PGA Tour does take action sooner rather than later.

The slowest players on the PGA Tour

Rex Hoggard has called for the TOUR to name and shame the slow players and there’s definitely something in that method.

Indeed, according to Matt Fitzpatrick’s caddie Billy Foster, the biggest culprits on the whole PGA Tour are Brian Harman and Tom Kim.

“Currently Tom Kim. Brian Harman, he has 12 [wiggles] before he hits it. You get dizzy watching him,” Foster said.

“They are good players, great players, it takes all types. But get on with it lads, will you.”

Golf is as divided as ever right now and there’s enough problems without slow play being something else to worry about.

Hopefully, the powers that be can come up with a solution and finally make it a thing of the past.
