LIV Golf might have some of the most talented golfers on the planet on its roster but that doesn’t mean they’ve not given consideration to some other top stars on the PGA Tour.
LIV chiefs managed to convince the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and eventually, Jon Rahm, to make the move over to the PIF-backed tour.
However, there’s been plenty of talk about future stars LIV might target, as well as suggestions of players who never quite made it.
Of course, we know that Rory McIlroy was linked with an $850m move to LIV, while the likes of Hideki Matsuyama have been linked as well.
But while the likes of McIlroy have played down LIV links, one man who was open to the move was one-time major winner and PGA Tour star, Jason Day.

Jason Day shares how close he got to joining LIV Golf
Day, who has won the PGA Championship and finished second in all the other majors in his career, has enjoyed a slight return to form in 2024.
However, Day has revealed that he and his agent did indeed investigate a move to LIV themselves, only be knocked back due to injury concerns.
“I didn’t knock it back,” Day told Code Sports Australia.
“What happened was, it was a business move to just go in and explore the potential of what would happen. I said [to my agent], ‘No worries, I’m happy with where I’m at, but it’s always nice to know.’ And they [LIV Golf] said, ‘We love Jason, but he’s too injured; he just gets too many injuries.’”
“I don’t blame them.”
| Year | Jason Day earnings |
| 2024 | $3,595,683 |
| 2023 | $5,758,933 |
| 2022 | $1,152,187 |
| 2021 | $1,207,860 |
| 2020 | $1,539,548 |
LIV Golf showing some thought behind big-money signings
This is an interesting take from Jason Day and in a way, it goes to show that the powers that be over at the LIV tour are considering multiple factors in their decision making.
Day has been one of the best players in the world during his career and but for a few of those injuries mentioned, he might have even more success on his CV.
However, injuries have played a role in stalling Day’s career and in fairness to him, his honesty here is refreshing.
Whether or not we see someone like Day on LIV down the road, remains to be seen. But with a few spots open over the winter, don’t be surprised to see some new faces involved anyway.
