Bryson DeChambeau is the 2024 US Open champion.
The popular American produced a stroke of genius on the final hole to send a brilliant bunker shot to within a few feet and then rolled in a cool putt to seal the win.
For second placed Rory McIlroy, it was yet more heartache and he was quick to exit Pinehurst, clearly distraught at the way he’d lost it.
Of course, DeChambeau deserved his moment after playing so well all week and in the end, his class told as he held his nerve and produced the goods on 18.

Watching on for Sky Sports, former major winner Nick Faldo was on hand to give his opinion on DeChambeau.
And while Faldo has been outspoken in his criticism of DeChambeau in the past, the Englishman had nothing but praise for him this time.

Speaking on Sky Sports after DeChambeau had sealed the win, Faldo admitted to being impressed with what he’d seen from the American.
“Well it was an unbelievable finish. The celebration of celebrations. Rory is going to be broken hearted so I feel for him. That’s what sport is all about though. I think this man came here on a mission, so all credit to him, after finishing just one back [at the PGA],” Faldo said.
“He finds a way and brings his own energy here. Incredible week. He has mastered this golf course, you have to say with that score.
“We were thinking a couple under, so that’s very impressive, six under.”

Second at Valhalla, and now winner at Pinehurst, Bryson DeChambeau is a man in form and there’s little sign he’s going away either.
DeChambeau was simply enthralling all week at the US Open and in the end, he got what he deserved.
For golf in general, seeing DeChambeau produce this sort of golf is quite stunning to watch and it should ensure the game comes together.
