Nick Dunlap has put himself into contention to win the St Jude Championship this weekend.

The 20-year-old American has been one of the standout stories from the 2024 golf season and he’s just five shots shy of Hideki Matsuyama.

Ahead of round four at the St Jude Championship, Dunlap is very much in contention and after playing with Scottie Scheffler yesterday, he’ll be in the final group with Matsuyama today.

Of course, any 20-year-old golf fan in the world would love to be in Dunlap’s position right now.

But while his success is brilliant to witness and he’s emerging as a future star of the PGA Tour, Dunlap himself has actually admitted he could do with a break.

Nick Dunlap explains why he needs a rest after breakout 2024 season

Speaking to the PGA Tour media after his round, Dunlap admitted he’s actually ready for a bit of a break.

“I’m honestly looking forward to a little bit of a break and to kind of recap the year and sit back and celebrate and look back on some of the things that have happened this year,” Dunlap commented.

“It’s honestly incredible, and I never would have thought I’d be standing here.”

Nick Dunlap could well dominate

It’s quite remarkable really that Dunlap is just 20 and that gives him a massive chance to become one of the best players around.

Since winning The American Express back in January, his 2024 has been quite something.

His results have been a bit all over the place and he’ll be disappointed to have missed the cut at all three majors he played in.

However, he won again at the Barracuda Championship just weeks ago and now on the FedEx, he’s showing his mettle.

Scottie Scheffler has predicted Dunlap will be around for quite some time and it’s hard to disagree with the world number one.

Quite whether he can haul in Matsuyama today, remains to be seen. The pundits predict that Scheffler is the man who can catch the Japanese star but Dunlap will be doing his best to disrupt that.

But overall, it’s been another tremendous week for Nick Dunlap, regardless of the outcome today.
