Nelly Korda has achieved huge stardom thanks to her superb efforts on the course, with her ability and trusty clubs having played crucial roles.
Korda thinks the three wood is the hardest club to hit in golf, but she has clearly had fantastic success with it and indeed the rest of the items in her bag.
Having joined the LPGA Tour back in 2017, Korda has risen all the way to number one in the world rankings.
Korda can become an even bigger star on the LPGA Tour, where she boasts 15 wins, including two major championships.
Seven of those wins meanwhile came in 2024, a season in which the American won her second major title.

Tiger Woods surprised by Nelly Korda’s upright irons
And she is now on track for more success this year, having started strongly with second-place and T7 finishes thus far.
And a fascinating insight into her game has now been shared by the player herself, with Korda looking back on an encounter with Tiger Woods for Trottie Golf.

Asked why she has her wedges three degrees upright, she replied: “I have tested on the lie board before and that is just where I hit them out of the centre. Obviously I play a draw too.
“It was funny actually Tiger was looking at my irons and he said ‘Jeez, these are really upright’. I was like ‘yeah’. And he was like ‘no wonder you hit a draw!’ So it helps my draw as well.”
What Nelly Korda never does with her iron shots
Having taken on both the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and Founders Cup, she now turns her focus to the Arizona Championship.
And there the world number one will be looking to climb the Race to CME Globe rankings, where she currently occupies 10th place.
Fortunately for her many fans and indeed perhaps many fellow professionals and amateur golfers alike, Korda delved further into her iron play.
With a P770 five iron and other irons of PCB, which are different sets, Korda explained: “I just like the look of the CBs more from pitching wedge to six iron.

“I need a little bit more height when it comes to my five iron because when we play at major championship golf courses the greens tend to get firmer and faster, so you want something with a little bit more height so the P770 gives me that going into the green.
“So I just know that even if I hit a controlled shot it is not going to shoot on the green. When it comes to just, in a sense my scoring clubs, I like the look of this [PCB irons] a little bit more from the top.
| Tournament | Position | To par | R1 | R2 | R3 | R4 | Total |
| Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands | T7 | -12 | 68 | 68 | 65 | 61 | 272 |
| Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions | 2 | -18 | 71 | 67 | 67 | 65 | 270 |
“It’s a bit thinner visually. I hit some really good controlled shots. I never go after a shot 95%, I am always in that 90% area, even less.
“Hitting these controlled shots with these CBs makes it a lot easier to execute what I am visually wanting.”
