Min Woo Lee was drawn to play with Cam Smith and Marco Penge for the first two rounds of the BMW Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane this week.
Min Woo Lee posted an opening round of three-under-par 68 at the Australian PGA Championship, while Smith carded a 69 and Penge went around in 70.
Unheralded Spaniard Sebastien Garcia currently holds the lead at the Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane, after playing his first 15 holes before the rain delay on Thursday in seven-under-par.
Royal Queensland is a truly beautiful golf course, and it was a shame that adverse weather halted play on Thursday.
Min Woo Lee has the ambition to become the best player in the world.

The 27-year-old Australian certainly has the talent to do that, as he proved during the 2025 season.
He showed some decent form in his homeland as well on Thursday, but his 68 definitely could have been a lot better.
Min Woo Lee says what Marco Penge and Cam Smith were like to play with in Australia
The trio all seemed to enjoy their opening rounds out in Australia, despite the fact that Penge felt slightly under the weather.
But what was the chemistry like in the group?

Min Woo spoke to reporters after his opening round, and commented on what Smith and Penge were actually like as playing partners during day one in Brisbane, as quoted by Golf Digest Australia.
“Yeah, it was awesome [to play with Penge and Smith],” Lee said.
“I mean, obviously Cam is a good friend and Marco I’ve known from a very young age, so it’s very cool to play with friends. I know Marco’s a little sick and has a sore neck, but no, it’s good to play with someone that you know really well.”
The two Australians and the Englishman will all be hoping to post lower scores on Friday to vault themselves into contention ahead of the weekend.
Min Woo Lee’s PGA Tour career in numbers
Min Woo Lee’s ambition to become one of the very best golfers in the world will depend on his ability to succeed in the United States on the PGA Tour.
In fairness to him, it looks like he will have no problem doing just that, judging by the results he has recorded in America thus far.
| Achievements | Min Woo Lee’s totals |
| Events played | 68 |
| Wins | 1 |
| Top-5s | 4 |
| Top-10s | 8 |
| Cuts made | 46 |
The challenge for Min Woo Lee moving forward will be to find more consistency and to turn his poor rounds in the mid-70s into 71s, 70s and 69s, just like the best players in the world do.
However, all of Min Woo Lee’s focus right now will be on winning the Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane, just like he managed to do in 2023.
