Rory McIlroy is a Players Championship winner once again, winning the event at TPC Sawgrass for the second time in his career.
A softer ball helped McIlroy win the Players Championship this time around, where he triumphed in a playoff over J.J. Spaun.
Spaun was criticised for checking McIlroy’s bag on the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass, the second of three playoff holes between the pair.
The former’s ball plummeted into the water at the island green shortly after, with Spaun unable to recover in their Players Championship.
American Spaun was denied a second career PGA Tour win, with the Northern Irishman securing his 28th success.

Michael Kim echoes Rory McIlroy Players Championship praise
Champion McIlroy labelled the Players the ‘best experience’ in world golf, and it seems that it is a popular opinion, with his fellow PGA Tour player Michael Kim sharing a similar verdict.
Despite missing the cut, he was upbeat in his analysis on X, with one of his thoughts from the event reading: “Personally, from a player’s perspective, I think The Players is the best run tournament in the world. Everything from the gym, food, practice facility, parking, and staff, it’s all first class.”
Michael Kim appreciates TPC Sawgrass more every year
McIlroy managed to recover at the iconic course, having blown a three-shot lead in his final round on Sunday as he finished on 12-under-par, level with Spaun.
Kim meanwhile carded rounds of 75 and 69 in Florida to end on even par, with the American missing out on a weekend spot.

The course certainly challenged the very best in the field, with world number one Scottie Scheffler finishing T20 on four-under.
The famous island green 17th hole broke many hearts as usual, while the formidable hanging tree on hole six was returned in a nod to Pete Dye’s original design.
It is a setup that continues to amaze Kim, who also noted: “Every yr I play this tournament, I appreciate the design of the course more.
“The par 5s are great because you have to take on some risk and to make birdie you really have to take on the hazard. As soon as you bail out, you’re barely making par.
“There’s always slightly more room to the hazard side than it looks which makes you want to take on a more aggressive line.”
