Max Homa would have been eager for a strong start to the Presidents Cup for the US Team after coming under the spotlight before the event.

Homa announced a split with coach Mark Blackburn before the Presidents Cup got underway, with the duo having parted ways after the St Jude Championship.

US Team captain Jim Furyk’s selection of Homa was criticised, with the player not doing himself any favours as he missed the cut at the Procore Championship shortly after.

Furyk opted against choosing the likes of Justin Thomas and Akshay Bhatia for his Presidents Cup picks, instead going for the six highest-ranked players.

Homa got the nod from the skipper, alongside Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman and Russell Henley.

Max Homa messages US Team after Presidents Cup omission

But Homa suffered early disappointment at Royal Montreal, with Furyk leaving him and Harman out of Thursday’s opening fourball session.

Home has, however, seemingly not taken the decision too badly, with the American wishing his teammates well before the action got underway.

“Ready to cheer on the guys today!” Homa wrote on X. “May my palms be sore from clapping and my shoulders ache from fist pumping. Lfggggg Team USA!”

How will Homa react to early Presidents Cup snub?

There will be plenty of Americans feeling hard done by after being snubbed by Furyk for the Presidents Cup this week.

Homa should, therefore, be grateful for his selection, with his opening day omission perhaps unsurprising given the circumstances.

He and Harman were ranked 12th and 11th respectively in the qualification standings, with Furyk opting for his strongest 10 on paper on Thursday.

Homa will soon have the chance to prove himself in Canada, with plenty of pressure on his shoulders to shine for the US Team.

Added pressure comes from the issue of Furyk’s side being strong favourites to lift the trophy, despite the International Team being the hosts.
