When it comes to interacting with fans, there are not many PGA Tour players who seem to go to the same lengths as Max Homa.

Max Homa has established himself as one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour over the last few years. Perhaps it is because he has lost his card on a couple of occasions, but the 34-year-old seems to make the most of the position he finds himself in.

But his popularity has also increased through Homa roasting the swings of the fans who send him videos on social media. It is almost a badge of honour when the two-time Wells Fargo champion makes a particularly cutting comment about the quality of someone’s swing.

With that, Homa probably expects to be given a little bit back at PGA Tour events. And there is arguably nowhere on the PGA Tour where the atmosphere plays a more important role than the Phoenix Open, with the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale providing one of the most best stages all year.

Max Homa shares the best comment a fan has made to him during the Phoenix Open

Homa was asked in an interview with Sports Illustrated about what the craziest thing a fan has said to him at the event has been. And while perhaps the craziest things cannot be repeated, he did share the comment he heard from a fan which really made him laugh.

“I know some stories I can’t tell. As far as like heckling goes or something of funny a fan says, a lot of the times it’s recycled, like, we’ve heard it a thousand times. But five years ago or so, one of the many years the Chiefs have been in the Super Bowl, we were on 17 green and across the lake on the left there were some guys on lawn chairs, just laying out later in the day,” he said.

“My caddie Joe’s on the other side of the green and I marked my ball and I chucked it to him, fairly far, it was actually an uncommonly good throw. I hit him right in the hands and some guy yelled “Patrick Mahoma!” and that one got me. I hadn’t heard it before, it was funny, it was timely.”

How Homa poked fun at himself after Scottie Scheffler’s arrest at the PGA Championship

It is not only fans Homa is willing to poke fun at. Homa had his followers in hysterics after the PGA Championship last year after he finished in a tie for 35th.

Homa joked about how he was disappointed to finish below someone who spent part of the week at Valhalla in jail, following Scottie Scheffler‘s arrest outside the golf course ahead of his second round. Scheffler would play an astounding round on Friday to bring himself into contention.

It would be good for golf therefore, if Homa is back amongst the best this coming year. The sport needs as many characters as possible right now as it looks to re-establish its identity for the coming years. And Homa is arguably one of the sport’s best.
