Max Homa was terribly unfortunate to miss out on qualifying for the US Open at Oakmont later this month.
Homa three-putted his final hole during the 36-hole US Open qualifier at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club in Columbus, Ohio.
He then failed to make it through the ensuing five-man play-off, with Cameron Young earning a spot at Oakmont.
What a shame that was for the 34-year-old, because there have been signs that he could be close to regaining his best form recently.
After his opening round 68 at the Memorial Tournament last week, Homa said that he is swinging the golf club better than ever.

Homa split with his long-time caddie Joe Greiner back in April, but little has changed for him since then as far as results are concerned.
He was so close to qualifying for the US Open on Monday, but missed out by one stroke in the end. That would have been a bitter pill to swallow for the PGA Tour star from Burbank, California.
Max Homa praised for what he did after missing out on US Open spot
Homa would have felt rock bottom after missing out on qualifying for the US Open.
However, he showed his class immediately after finishing up in Columbus, Ohio.
Homa took the time to sign autographs for the fans who followed him around throughout the day.
And he received huge praise from golf fans for that.
One golf fan said, “Dang this makes me upset for the guy.“
While another fan said, “Max is my guy, class act all the time love what he does for the game of golf.“
Meanwhile, a third Homa follower said, “What a class act! Max Homa truly shows what sportsmanship is all about, even on Golf’s Longest Day!“
Then a fourth golf fan said, “That’s dope of him.“
A fifth fan said, “Max is one of the good guys and he just gets it… going old school and carrying his own bag today… lots of folks rooting for you Max!“

While a sixth golf fan said, “Never cared for him before but is very classy here. These events are tough to compete in and tougher to miss out the way he did.“
Before a seventh fan shared his love for Homa, “Total class! Max, this will all work out soon. You are a great dude and the time will come with your game!“
And finally, an eighth golf fan said, “He is such a class act.“
Max Homa’s 2025 PGA Tour stats
Homa’s drop-off over the past year has been sad to witness really.
He is obviously a very good player, but is going through all sorts of problems right now.
Here is how his numbers for 2025 are looking, and it’s not a pretty sight:
| PGA Tour statistical category | Max Homa’s 2025 rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 119th |
| Strokes gained approach | 178th |
| Strokes gained putting | 104th |
| Strokes gained total | 172nd |
| Scoring average | 177th |
Homa has to get back to basics. He seems to be initiating far too much change right now.
He has switched caddies and split with his long-time coach.
Sometimes, the answer is simple, and more hard work is required. Hopefully Homa rediscovers his best stuff sooner rather than later.
