Max Homa has endured a really difficult time on the links over the past year or so.

He hasn’t made the weekend in an event with a cut since the Open Championship in July 2024.

Max Homa has endeared himself to golf fans the world over with his hilarious antics on social media over the past few years.

However, times have got tough for the six-time PGA Tour winner over the past 12 months.

Despite his recent struggles, Max Homa suggested he was hitting the ball the best he ever has during the build-up to the Player’s Championship.

The 34-year-old went on to miss the cut at Sawgrass, and now he has taken drastic action.

Golf fans in shock after Max Homa makes ‘crazy’ decision

Homa hit the headlines on Thursday when he announced that he had parted ways with his long serving caddy Joe Greiner.

“Joe and I made memories for a lifetime and can’t be more thankful for all the hard work, Homa said. We have parted ways and it will be sad to see him go. I’ll always be grateful to have walked the fairways with one of my best friends.”

Interestingly, Homa named Greiner as the ‘best caddie on the planet’ back in February:

“I mean this with no disrespect to any other caddies, I am friends with a lot of you guys, but Joe is the best caddie on the planet.

“He works his tail off, he is a phenomenal golfer himself. He has amazing feel. He played professional golf.

Greiner was on the bag for Homa in all six of his PGA Tour wins, so the announcement on Thursday came as somewhat of a surprise.

And numerous golf fans flocked to social media to share their shock at the player / caddy break-up…

X user @gordo12238 posted, Didn’t see that coming.

A second golf fan on X – @TommyyyGun suggested that Homa has made some really poor decisions recently, Max just doing all the wrong things the last 12 months. Very sad to see.

Meanwhile, @_mastandreaa took to X to share his shock at Homa’s announcement, This is genuinely shocking. Hope Max can find his game again.

A fourth golf fan – @JeffyChamp – sarcastically said, Oh yeah, Joe is the problem.

Then @Just_Some_Guy29 said, Sad to see. But people have to remember that a player having the same caddie their entire career is a very rare thing.

Whilst @theblanketdog had a different spin on things, Joe is thankful. Maybe he can make some money now.

Meanwhile, X user @Cutch_T shared his sadness for both Homa and Greiner, Noooo. I hate this for the both of them!

And @mapimages aimed criticism at Homa for his decision, Sure blame the caddie for the T128 finishes.

Max Homa needs to rewind the clock to 2018 to find solution to his golfing woes

Homa is someone who has been through real struggles in the game before.

Back in 2018, the 34-year-old made just one cut out of his first six events during what was known as the ‘fall season’ back then.

He then went on to win at the Wells Fargo Championship the following May.

He explained how he undertook a mass audit on his golf game from top to bottom, as quoted by Golf Digest:

“I was playing terrible and wanted to take some time to review everything about my game—really go at it.

Max Homa’s short-game and driving were the two areas of his game that he and his coach decided to really focus on.

Perhaps he needs to go back to basics and do the same now.

It remains to be seen whether or not his split with Joe Greiner ends up aiding or hindering his attempts to reach the top once again.
